Look & Drink Like Hemmingway at Cuba Libre

Cuba Libre has been pumping out daiquiris all month long. For $10 each, guests are welcomed to enjoy the daiquiri of the day, and each is just as exiting as the next. Thursday, July 21, is a kind of pinnacle in the daiquiri homage, as it is the 112th birthday of one of Cuba’s most famous residents and America’s most famous authors, Earnest Hemmingway.

During happy hour, from 5pm – 7pm, Cuba Libre will be offering Hemmingway’s favorite drink, the Papa Doble for $5.

Chef Guillermo Pernot has also prepared a menu of snacks for $4 each, including Guacamole Cubano, avocado with golden pineapple, fresh lime juice and extra virgin olive oil, served with plantain chips; Frituras de Bacalao, salted cod fritters with homemade lemon mayonnaise; and Miami Frita, a mini Cuban burger of ground beef, pork and chorizo with tomato, lettuce, mojo de ajo and mustard on toasted Cuban bread with Kennebec shoestring potatoes.

Plus, there will be a Hemmingway lookalike contest. So if you look like Hemmingway, you know where to be.

Rum Dinner at Cuba Libre

To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, Cuba Libre Philadelphia has partnered up with Bacardi Rum to offer guests a different Daiquiri for all 31 days during the month of July. To kick off the festivities, the Old City location will be hosting a Rum Dinner, this Wednesday, June 29 at 7pm.

Chef Guillermo Pernot will be preparing a four course rum dinner, showcasing a few of the daiquiris and seafood specials that will be featured during the coming month. Tickets are $85 per person and include dinner, drink pairings and a cocktail reception.

If you’re wondering, why seafood and daiquiris, there’s a perfectly simple explanation. It’s in honor of Earnest Hemmingway. The Nobel Prize winning author’s birthday falls during the month. He was one of Cuba’s most notable American inhabitants and his love of deep sea fishing and daiquiris was well known.

It’s also National Daiquiri Month so there’s more reasons than not to celebrate.

This Wednesday’s menu will include

Ceviche de Ostras, oyster ceviche with roasted banana-tamarindo sauce and Tooloom balls; Atún Señor Lopez, Coco Lopez-BACARDÍ Solera rum-glazed blue fin tuna anticuchos with cucumbers, smoked, dried shrimp and roasted peanut salsa; Matambre de Cordero, lamb flank steak roulade stuffed with spinach and carrots served with a warm, Boletus mushroom salad; Serrucho al Escabeche, grilled swordfish fillet, red snapper and black olives escabeche with crispy tomatoes and cilantro-caper aioli; and Piña Asada, vanilla-cardamom-clove-glazed, slow-roasted pineapple served with mango ice cream.

Cool Off With Free Rumsicles At Cuba Libre

The last time you ran up the street trying to chase down the ice cream man, you were probably about 9 years old. But if Mister Softee was serving up Rumsicles, the minute you heard the music, I bet you’d grab your dollar and head for the door.

Luckily, you don’t have to hunt down a disgruntled ice cream truck driver to get one. On Monday, August 16, in honor of National Rum Day ( yes there is such a thing ) Cuba Libre will be giving out these rum-tastic frozen treats for FREE to the first 100 people to walk through the door between 5pm – 7pm.

All summer long, Cuba Libre is serving up 4 flavors of icy goodness at just $5 a pop and $4 during happy hour. Inspired by paletas, a Latin – American warm weather treat, Cuba Libre’s Rumsicles come in four flavors - watermelon, blueberry, raspberry and mango, made from fresh fruit and Cuba Libre’s signature rums.

Check out these sweet treats at any of Cuba Libre's locations, including Philadelphia and Atlantic City from now until Labor Day.
