City Chase Adventure Race Is Coming Back To Philly

Ok so scavenger hunts are definitely cool but when do you actually get to be a part of one? I’m not talking about stealing lawn ornaments either…I’m talking about an organized, race through Philadelphia where teams of two blow through the city to complete challenges and win prizes for a chance to compete in a national championship.

On Saturday, July 31, City Chase will be coming back to Philadelphia for the 3rd annual Philly leg of the urban adventure race. With 600 people signed up already, it’s guaranteed to be an exciting time. Advance registration is now open. The registration fee is $175 for the team and registration will be open online up until the night before for all of you last minute types. If you use the philly2night discount code, P2N, you get $20 off your registration fee.

Teams will begin at the starting line, Dilworth Plaza at City Hall and spend the day racing through the city, completing mental, physical and even gastro –type challenges. Apparently, the favorite event in Philly for the past couple years was the Strip Bowling Challenge – bowl a strike or bare it all!

Teams are encouraged to use their smart phones to find info and map out their routes, but no bikes people. This is strictly a foot race but they do provide SEPTA passes to help you along.

Teams will be given a challenge sheet with 30 cryptic clues. Racers will have to decipher and complete 10 of the challenges in different zones of the city before heading to the finish line at the Field House on 11th and Filbert for the afterparty. Local businesses, restaurants and bars will also be involved in hosting the challenges but those spots are strictly on the hush hush – until the day of.

Winners can score some sick prizes like BlackBerry Smartphones, Merrell gear, gym memberships and local gift certificates. The winning team in Philadelphia will win a trip to compete in the National Championship against teams from Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, New York, San Diego and Seattle.

The location of the National Championship will be announced in Philly the day of the race. Winners of the National Championship will each win an All-New 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Crossover Utility Vehicle and the US Championship title.

This year’s Chasers will also be helping to raise money for Back on My Feet, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.

You must be at least 18 to participate but it doesn’t matter how old you are. The winner of the most recent Seattle leg was 60. So find a partner and come out to support a good cause and do something different with your last Saturday in July!
