My Worthless Grilled Cheese Post - No Kraft Singles Here

Props to WCL for selling out, but I was totally excited about grilled cheeses today and unfortunately, the point is now moot. Make your own grilled cheese peeps.

Grilled cheese may be the most basic of all grilled sandwiches. So simple that it may have been one of the first dishes I attempted in the kitchen. A couple of slices of white bread, a little American cheese, a sandwich maker (yes, it was the 90’s) and presto – grilled cheese.

I no longer have that nifty sandwich maker. And as the years go by, grilled cheese sometimes loses its lure. Passed over for other, more Reuben-like choices. But the old original never totally loses its charm and when new, grown up varieties of grilled cheese are offered, well, there’s no stopping the draw.

In the coming months, World Café Live will hold two more of its Grilled Cheese and Beer Tastings, the first is this Sunday, November 14, at 5pm, upstairs. Tickets are $35 per person and include beers, grilled cheeses, dessert, tax and tip.

Not a bad deal for a night out. Plus, the grilled cheeses and desserts are made from locally sourced ingredients and the beer is local too. During the last tasting, guests got to enjoy a Yards Saison with and old bay cheddar and brioche grilled cheese and a mini crab cake. And for dessert, a Victory Storm King Stout Strawberry shortcake with drunken berries. Sounds delish. And, there’s even vegetarian options too.
